My bff, LP, sent me a care package this past week! So thankful and love her to death!
She actually sent me these warmers for INSIDE my house. It has yet to reach 60 degrees in here all winter. Baseboard heat is outrageously expensive!
Earlier this month I asked on my Facebook page about Bible Study suggestions. Her hubby suggested this book, although it’s more of a read than a devotion.
This measurement cracks me up. It lasted about 5 days. It’s all gone again. THIS is winter in Maryland. Reminds me of when I lived in Washington state.
This was Minnesota last year in December. Not sure when it finally went away, but I’m guessing it wasn’t until April sometime. Now THAT’s the winter we’re used to!

Transferring Medication Refills To Walgreens #WalgreensRX #shop
Now that we’re settled into the new house and have found our doctors, the next step was for us to find a pharmacy for all of our prescriptions to transfer. I signed up at Walgreens.com and did a pharmacy chat to learn more.
My oldest son and I have prescriptions that need to be filled monthly and I also have occasional eczema that flairs up occasionally that I have a Rx for. Since #WalgreensRX is everywhere, it’s a safe bet to sign up with them and have them in our history so that if we move one more time in the next year, all we have to do is have the prescriptions go to a different location.
Signing up online was extremely easy and done within a couple of minutes.
After I put in my personal information, I was given the option of transferring our prescriptions. Since we only have a few it was easy to have them to enter.
Once our information was entered, I wanted to try out the Walgreens App because I like getting things done fast and easy. Imagine, ordering your Rx just by scanning a barcode?!
I wasn’t sure which would be the quickest and easiest method of getting a Rx refilled so I jumped on a chat at Walgreens.com and ended up chatting with a Pharmacy Technician. He told me when he uses the App, it takes about 5 minutes for the pharmacy to receive it. lol Crazy fast and exactly what I need.
Since I have ADD, having a quick way to order my prescription or my son’s prescription is important. Thankfully the school nurse calls when she gets down to about a week of medication left and gives me a chance to get his Rx refilled. Thanks to #CollectiveBias I'm was able to put all of this into action!

Wordless Wednesday: Winter in Maryland
So far, the boys and I haven’t been very impressed with the Maryland winter. We’ve seen glimpses of snow a couple of times, but like when I lived in Washington, it disappears rather quickly.
I thought seeing white across the expanse of Minnesota for 4-5 months was hard to handle, but it’s been a dull brown here since September? I’m thinking that’s even more depressing.
Yes, there’s a bonus that it hasn’t reached –60 here. The downside is, when it snows, or there’s a hint of snow, everything shuts down. The boys have had more days off here than any year back home. I have a feeling the boys will be going to school until July at this rate.
Today was another day off because of “inclement weather”. It finally started snowing around 12:30pm. At this rate, school will be closed again tomorrow. I really need these boys to go back to school. This tiny house with all 3 of us in it all day long is driving me insane!

A Perfect Duo: DiGiorno Pizza and Football #GameTimeGoodies #shop
Right now it’s game time, so the boys and I are watching Denver and New England play and man, it’s a good game! Yes, Denver has carried it, but we had hoped New England would stay a bit closer with the points! We love watching football on the weekends.
Last night Fred and I headed to Walmart after his son’s baseball game to stock up on some DiGiorno pizza’s so we could eat some good grub and celebrate the the games before the Big Game! Ahhhh I can hardly wait for February 2nd!
Now, I’ll be honest here…I had 3 DiGiorno pepperoni pizzas in the freezer already. Hey, they’re on rollback for $4.50 right now, so I’ve started stocking up. This time I grabbed a Three Meat and 4 Cheese, and yea, one more Pepperoni.
I got it in my head that I would cut the pizza up into football shapes and one of the pizza’s into a goal post. Hey, I’m not one to think outside of the box or creatively so that’s all I had. hahahaha Thankfully, I grabbed some decorations to make sure we were festive! I wish I had all of my football decorations from home. I have the best platters and dishes. Sigh…I’ll get back home to get those things one of these days!
I cut up the pizza after they were defrosted a bit and got them into the oven. In the meantime, I make a 5 Cheese Spinach Artichoke dip. Again, I don’t have my slow cooker with me so I had to make it on the stove. Sweet Fred brought his over after I already had it pretty much cooked. It definitely could’ve used some extra slow cooking time.
As soon as the first game started, the guys and I grabbed our pizzas and sat down to root on our teams. Since Green Bay isn’t in any of the games, Buddy doesn’t care who’s playing. Doodle was hoping the Patriots would win and I was on the fence. I like Tom Brady and his team, but I also have an affinity for Denver since we lived in Colorado for 7 yrs and I was a HUGE Elway fan and now I’m a huge Peyton Manning fan! I bet Indianapolis is kicking themselves for letting him go! They got so close this year, but Manning is bringing Denver to the Big Game next month! Woot!
Now we need to warm up our leftover pizza and eat some cheesecake for the second game of the day. We’re pulling for Seattle. Yet another place I lived AND they have Percy Harvin who’s from Minneapolis and is on the only jersey I own, but from my hometown team from last year, not with his new team! I’m hoping they win and there’s a Denver/Seattle battle.
The last time I saw them together was in 1985? We had just moved to Seattle from Erie, CO and I thought Elway could do no wrong. Denver came to the Evergreen State and my parents gave my brother and I tickets to watch them. There he and I sat at the stadium as 15 and 10 yr olds rooting on our old team in our new city. lol Let’s just say, we didn’t make any fans in Seattle that day!

Have You Ever Seen Rikki Tikki Tavi?
When I was a little girl, most of my favorite movies involved animals. I remember when I was probably 11 yrs old I went to the community center and watched a movie about lions in Africa. Mind you, this was the early 80s, and I have no clue what the movie was. I was so moved by the movie I was in tears when my mom picked me up. lol She told me if that’s how I was going to be at these kinds of movies she wasn’t going to take me to them. hahahaha
Well, in that same vein, animal vein, one of my favorite movies growing up was Rikki Tikki Tavi. No, I don’t think it was in theaters, maybe it was? but to this day, I remember how in love I was with that mongoose.
He loved his boy, the whole family. He had the coolest tail, so big and fluffy. Rikki seemed so cuddly and that hopping around when he’s ready to fight...so cute! Then there were the cobras. Oh my gosh, those things freaked me OUT! The way they “spoke” with such evil. But that Rikki Tikki Tavi, he saw it as his duty to keep the family safe. Those eyes of his were pretty spooky when he went into “mongoose” mode. All I could think of when I watched this movie was, “Where can I get my own mongoose?”
Be sure to search it on YouTube!

A Parenting Moment I Regret
The newest blog post prompt is kind of a tough one. I have 4 kids. I would never in a million years claim to do anything right 100% of the time, or even 50% of the time (although I like to think I do). I just get by as best I can. I do what I think is right at the time. Other times I respond in an emotional state. It’s possible to be wrong in both of those situations. Being a single mom means I’m the one who makes all of the final decisions and I’m the one who does all of the parenting. But, I wasn’t always a single mom.
Events happened years ago, when I was married, that was a precursor to the breakdown of my family. My ex-husband left a lot to be desired as a step father. He and my youngest daughter didn’t get along by any stretch of the imagination. I think because she wouldn’t take any of his crap it made him even more mad. Often it felt like I was dealing with two 10 yr olds. It was ridiculous.
I did my best to stop the fighting the two of them did, verbally, and sought counseling. At the time, I thought I was doing the best I could, and tried to protect the girls, from his outbursts, mostly my youngest daughter. It didn’t happen all of the time, but the verbal crap my daughter took from him just wasn’t ok. I’m not a pushover, ask my boyfriend, and got in between them and didn’t let him keep up his crap once he got on a roll. Sometimes it got out of hand before I was able to step in, but don’t doubt, step in, I did.
When I look back, I know that we can all say what we would’ve done in certain situations if it “had been me”, I’m sick to my stomach. I know I would’ve done things differently. I don’t like how I handled the situation.
I’M their mom!
I’M the one who should protect them no matter what.
Unfortunately, I failed them, my girls, and ultimately my family, by not making better decisions earlier on and putting them in a place where they were better protected from him.
Thankfully we’ve been apart for 7 years and our lives have gotten significantly better. My youngest daughter and I still struggle to have a relationship. I have asked for her forgiveness in as many ways as I can and I have taken responsibility for not being there when I should have.
I’m asking that you not attack me because you know you would never allow such a thing to happen in your home. I have done that for you for years. I still carry the guilt on a daily basis of not taking care of or protecting my girls. I still beat myself up when it comes to mind, and rehash it all in my head often enough that not one else needs to beat me up and tell me what a crappy, fail mom I was.
Maybe you’ve never had quite the regrettable parenting moment like I have, but maybe you feel like sharing a little moment you’ve had as a mom or dad.

If I could Stay…Thirty-Four
When I think about what age I would stay if I were given the option, I’d stay 34. There are a whole host of reasons why. The starting point would be because I’d have all 4 of my kids. If I went back to any earlier age, I would be missing one, and that’s just not something I could live with! The picture below is me around 37, but I don’t have anything on my computer that’s older.
At 34 I wasn’t in my late 30s yet. lol For some reason being in my “late” anything makes me feel like I’m already to the next decade and I’m not fond of that feeling! Right now the thought of heading into my late 40s is far from appealing.
After having all 4 of my kids and then getting my job, I was probably in the best shape of my life. Mmmmm Well, maybe the 2nd best because in my late 20s when I was in college I took some aerobics classes and was in good shape.
I was also a stay at home mom. It was THE best job I ever had. If I could go back to being one, I’d do it in a heartbeat. As a SAHM I was able to volunteer at the girls school. I’d take Buddy and new baby Doodle to toddler and baby classes.
Staying at that age would mean no midlife crisis, right? lol I wouldn’t ever hit my 40s edging me into my twilight years. I’d be young enough to still feel like I wasn’t over-the-hill. I’d be old enough to be respected, at least from my dad’s perspective.
What age would you stay at if you could?
Hanging Out At Applebees Watching The Playoffs #sp #TailgateBash
It was so fun taking the boys to Applebees last weekend to watch the Green Bay Packers vs the Chargers last weekend. Buddy is a crazy Packers fan while Doodle and I would rather “boo” them. lol Unfortunately, since our teams, the Vikings and Falcons were out of the running, we were there to support Buddy’s team.
When we walked in, I was happy to see all of the tvs tuned to the game. I asked to have a seat closest to the game, because quite honestly, I like hearing the game as it’s being played as well. Kind of fuels the fire for me. hahahaha
After we got our seats, I asked our waiter to turn up the volume. There wasn’t anyone near us or in our section so they didn’t seem worried about it. All of the staff was decked out in team jerseys. The boys fit in. Doodle will wear his jersey even if his team is out of the playoffs.
The boys had their typical meal of a burger and chicken strips. I tried one of their Clubhouse Grille sandwiches. I like trying something new each time we go, although my go-to is always their burgers!
While we waited for our food to come, more people filled in around us and were glued to the tv. I “may” have involved enough in the game that I yelled at the tv. Hey, I can’t help it! I get wrapped up in the games, what can I say? And I’m not the only one! There was yelling and whooping coming from the bar, too! The Applebees we were eating at has specials during the games at the bar! You should definitely check your local one to see what specials they have during the upcoming Big Game!
We weren’t able to stay for the whole game. You can only eat so much food at one sitting, at least with kids. I would prefer to stay for an entire game because I’m a football fanatic, even when it’s teams I don’t always care about. If you can’t have a party at your own house (mine is waaaay too tiny for a group of people) then hanging out with a group of friends or a bunch of strangers is a blast!
We were going to go watch 49ers vs the Panthers today, but the boys wanted to wait until next week’s games to go back to Applebees. As a single mom I’m on a budget and won’t be able to watch all of the games outside of the house, so I told the boys we could either go to this weekend’s games or next week’s Patriots vs Broncos game. They chose next week!

Show Your Team Pride With A Flag From 1st Down Shop #sp #TailgateBash
Until the past year or so, I’d never seen large flags being flow in front yards rooting on people’s favorite sports teams! Recently I’m starting to see them in quite a few yards! Mostly for the football fanatics!
Being that we’re in a state that has 3 different fans: Redskins, Ravens, and Steelers, I figured one way to stand out would be to have an awesome flag in the front yard. Ok, “awesome” is probably too strong of a word because it’s not a Vikings flag, but a Steelers one.
I hadn’t actually ever seen one up close before, but when we got the Steelers flag for Fred, it was SO nice! We ordered it from 1st Down Shop and it actually came quickly. Unfortunately, it came right before the last Pittsburg Steelers game where they lost. He and his son didn’t have much time to proudly fly it in the yard. I’m sure they’ll have it out there flying during every Steelers game next year. I’ll have to get a Vikings one to show our pride against theirs! lol
The flag actually has the Steelers logo embroidered onto it. It’s not a print. It’s made on a heavy duty nylon and is 8 1/2 feet tall! Top that off with an 11 foot pole and your yard is set to show your team pride!
If you’re a football fan, 1st Down Shop has everything you could possibly imagine. And yes, they have them for other professional sports, NCAA, and military! Imagine having a leather recliner, floor mats for your car, tailgate table, or a billiard lamp with your favorite teams logo on it! Ahhhh dreams of having a sports room dancing in my head! lol Imagine one wall all Vikings, one all Packers, one all Steelers and one all Falcons. hahahahaha It could make for a lot of entertainment!

My Neck Of The Woods This Winter
This is such a different winter for me and the boys. We’re used to having snow from November until the end of April (at the earliest). The snow piles up, it’s white for months, and we live with a shovel by the front door. Well, we did until we moved to Maryland.
It’s “snowed” twice here. We’ve heard that snow was going to come on other occasions, but it never showed up. Hints of snow or snowflakes falling here, people do a bit of panicking; schools consider closing and have closed, people clear shelves of food and drink, many people just don’t go anywhere. Really, it just cracks my boys and I up.
This is what it looks like here on January 9, 2014
Here’s what we’re used to around this time of year:
That picture was taken at the beginning of December 2012. lol
Here it’s been a balmy 40-50 degrees. When my daughters came out for Christmas it was in the high 60s and they brought shorts. hahahaha I think our senses are a bit out of whack because it feels like an extended Minnesota fall because we’re not used to these temps at this time of the year.
How has your winter weather been? Have you ever made a move that was as weather drastic as this?
The Prompts:
1.) Find a photo of yourself taken 10 years ago and display it on your blog along with a current photo. How have you changed since the day that photo was taken?
2.) Write a blog post inspired by the word: dog house.
3.) List 8 things you think people forgot how to do.
4.) A childhood toy you once loved.
5.) Show us what winter looks like in your neck of the woods!
Our Battling Tervis Tumblers #TailGateBash #sp
As I’ve said before, my boys and I have a healthy debate going over who has the “best” NFL team to root for. Now, “best” is a subjective word. If you look at stats, you might say the Vikings aren’t the “best” team in the league. You might think of Buddy’s Green Bay Packers and say they’re the “best”. Doodle would state emphatically that his Falcons rule the roost and are the “best”. Shhhhh don’t tell the boys “Go Vikings!”
Initially when I wanted to do the Tailgate Bash, I was hoping the 3 of us would be able to get a product of some sort that represented each of our teams. When I heard from Tervis saying they’d join our party, I was SO excited! Moving here we didn’t have many “extra” cups and definitely no tumblers. They sent Buddy and I tumblers that represented both of our teams!!
I’m going to totally sound like I’m bragging on the company, and that’s be cause they deserve it. We absolutely love our tumblers. There are so many fun components to both of our cups. I wanted to surprise Buddy with his Tervis tumbler because I told him I didn’t have any Green Bay products otherwise I would’ve let him choose his own design.
That’s where we should start…the options. The options are really what sold me on how cool this company is. First, you can pick a numerous sizes of their tumblers, a mug, water bottle, and ice bucket. You can also pick out various designs, and ladies, there’s even a PINK one for each of the NFL teams! See, that is a company reaching a wider demographic!
After you decide on a tumbler, you get even MORE options. Depending on which tumbler you choose, you can even choose a tumbler color. There’s a minimal fee for that. You could even personalize it! Accessories available are like lids in an array of colors, handles, shaker tops, straws, and gift bags, all right there on one page.
As you can see from the picture above, we found Tervis at Kohl’s when we were shopping last weekend, and Buddy has begun his birthday list with these at the top! Good to know I’ve created a fan! Doodle said, “The next time you work with them, I get a Falcon’s cup.” hahahaha Wow! Who knew a tumbler would be on the hot list for my boys?

Getting To Know Versatile Actress/Singer E. G. Daily
I grew up watching E.G. Daily in the 80s and loved seeing her in any movie. Back then, to me, she was the girl every other girl wanted to be. I went onto YouTube to refresh my memory on the movies I loved her in and the funny thing was, watching them, I forgot how many she sang in.
Now, you might be wondering, “Who is E.G. Daily?” Before I tell you how you’d know her, let me ask you, when was the last time you watched The Voice? Yes, I know it’s over, but did you watch it this past season? If so, you saw her sing!
Ah, now you know who I’m talking about, right? No? Ok, what if I mention Tommy Pickles from Rugrats or Buttercup from The Powerpuff Girls or Dottie from Pee-wee’s Big Adventure! Now, those are kid shows from the 80’s and 90’s. I remember her more from her 80’s movies.
I have to say, when we first started the interview, it felt like I was just talking to another mom. Well, I did admit to having a girl crush when I was a young teen (ha!), but other than that, it was such a normal conversation. E.G. was really a delight to chat with!
What came first for you, a love for acting or singing?
E.G. said she would say she started singing before anything else. Acting started from being shy. 9-10 started writing poety and from there singing.
What roll would you say most people know you from?
Different mediums would be different answers. She and I agreed that she’s covered multiple generations and that each one would know her for a different roll. Whereas I remember her from Valley Girl, Summer School, and and Better Off Dead, my kids (all 4 of them) would know her from Rugrats and Happy Feet.
What prompted you to try out for The Voice? Has the time on that show brought renewed interest in you as a singer/actress from people that might not have known who you were?
She’s always looking for new ways to reinvigorate herself, and she’s older and wiser so she really enjoyed it. Not like at 20, making certain careers moves, where it was more business than anything. Now E.G.’s doing it because she loves it. Refines joy and changes your life. She’s been doing it for fun and has opened up new things for her career.
ON that stage she was able to remind people about Rugrats & Pee wee, but everyone was pulling pieces together of who she was. Whether a voice over, singer, actress, it brought it all together. She’s all of those people.
She kept it secret for a while from her kids. A friend had signed her up. E.G. was just in it for the journey.
How did you get involved with doing voice over work?
Women are usually the ones who do the voices. It just flows. They’re put in their own little niche. I had never thought about it, but E.G. said that they don’t get boys to do boy character voices because their voices change and crack as they get older. Someone saw her do a show where she had to grow up with the character and thought her voice would be perfect for voice overs.
Where do you see your career heading? What do you have coming up next?
E.G. is doing a lot of press…The Voice has made her story more fascinating. For her it’s more important to share the message of doing positive, age doesn’t matter.
I’m excited to see where E.G.’s career heads. I know she won’t be done working any time soon. She’s been in the business since the late 70’s so she clearly has staying power. It’ll be fun to see if she ends up in more tv or movie rolls and if she makes any more albums. I would definitely expect to hear more from her music career down the road! Be sure to visit her website to keep up with her and connect with her on any of her social sites!
