Do you ever look at circumstances in your life and wonder, "How in the world did this happen? How did I (we) get here?" I know I have! Being a single mom, I wonder how this ever happened to me. My 16 yr old daughter is living with a friend of ours because she's had such a hard time with certain things in life I knew this would be the right thing for her.
But of course, none of this just happened with the flick of a switch. Much of what happens to us occurs over time. We slowly fade into what "happens". In this Casting Crowns video, it's obvious what they're talking about, infidelity. But I think we have to pay attention to how we are with the people we love.
Do we create an environment that will eventually lead to estrangement and a complete breakdown of the relationship? We have to pay attention to the things we say and do because it's not all about us, it effects those around us profoundly either in a positive or negative way. We need to be Jesus as much as we can to those around us.
The following are only some of the words to the song "Slow Fade" with the chorus in bold.
Slow Fade by Casting Crowns
Be careful little eyes what you see
It's the 2nd glance that ties your hands
As darkness pulls the strings
Be careful little feet where you go
It's the little feet behind you
That are sure to follow
It's a slow fade
When you give yourself away
It's a slow fade
When black and white are turned to gray
And thoughts invade
Choices made, a price will be paid
When you give yourself away
People never crumble in a day
Oh be careful little ears what you hear
When flattery leads to compromise
The end is always near
Be careful little lips what you say
For empty words and promises
Lead broken hearts astray
(chorus)
Be careful if you think you stand
You just might be sinkin'...
Daddy's never crumble in a day...
Families never crumble in a day...

I love this song and especially the lyrics. I had been meaning to look at the lyrics more closely and here they are!
This song really hit home for us when we had something extremely hurtful happen in our family. "Families never crumble in a day..." Wow. It wasn't overnight. It had happened over time.
The hardest thing I did was praise God through our "storm". "Praise You in the Storm" was my song. My heart is still torn, but God has held me so tight. He has never left our side. I don't know why difficult things happen, but I am glad it strengthens my faith.
Hugs and Blessings,
Michelle
