Not me! So, this will probably turn into a really long post so grab a cup-a-joe and settle in to your computer chair.
Several months ago my then 16 yr old daughter told me she wanted a tattoo. I wasn’t surprised. Of all my kids I figured she’d be the one to want one. Not because they’re losers or druggies, but you just know your kids.
What I wasn’t prepared for was the location of the tattoo she wanted. Smooch said that she wanted the word “overcome” in Hebrew on the underside of her wrist. “WHERE? On a 16 yr old? Oh, I don’t think so.” Of course, because of our strained relationship I didn’t say that. I actually said, “I’ll have to get back to you.”
Over the course of a month or more we discussed this location. I wasn’t concerned about her getting a tattoo. My thoughts were on her future. There is a stigma still about people with tattoos. Smoochie wants to be a Youth Pastor/Leader and I told her that she’d have to find a very young church or work in the inner city to find a church willing to hire a young lady with a tattoo on her wrist. Trust me, none of the country bumpkin churches in our area care for that sort of thing: right or wrong.
I also said that she is only 16, her career path might change and what happens when she goes to interviews, say at an accounting firm and when she shakes the HR person’s hand they notice the tattoo. Many companies have policies on whether tattoos can be visible. Wearing long sleeve shirts in the summer would stink! Always having to cover it up, what a pain!
So, bottom line came when I said she could get a tattoo on another part of her body, but not her wrist. Of course she didn’t care for that answer. A couple weeks later, I get a txt message saying she’ll get a tattoo on her calf. Alrighty then, the appt was made not only for herself, but for her BFF, Mac on Mac’s bday!
We headed to Bare Nasty Tattoos: Me, Smoochie, Mac, and Mac’s mom, Mary. The girls had done their research and found this was the best place to go in the area and the guys was reasonably priced.
Mac was the first to go. She got a tattoo…ON. HER. WRIST. What I was so thrilled for, and had nothing to do with, was the fact that Randy, the owner told Mac EXACTLY what I had told Smooch about what the future might hold if she gets a tattoo on her wrist! THANK you!
Well, Mac was not deterred. She got her tat on her wrist and didn’t even flinch when Randy started. I guess a lot of her friends didn’t think she’d be able to handle it and probably wouldn’t go through with it. I told her that it might feel funky to begin with because she has no idea what to expect, but that she’d be fine.
Next came Smooch. She had to sit kind of funky because it was going on the side of her lower leg. Her dangling leg actually fell asleep. We talked with Randy about his new walk with the Lord and tried to encourage him. Smooch meanwhile is trying to tempt me into getting a tattoo!
It all went so quickly and it was kind of surreal. Here I am watching my daughter have her body permanently altered. This body that had never had a blemish. Now, forever changed. It was really cool and Randy did an amazing job! I hope this is the only tattoo she ever gets, but she’s still young and I have a feeling she still wants more.
Now, I know there are those of you who are questioning whether a Christian should have a tattoo. First of all, I’d like to direct you to a website that I believe really covers this topic: Sacred Ink. I agree with what they share and after having been married to a man with tattoos knew that it wasn’t unbiblical. First of all, this was discussed in the Old Testament and was dealing with pagan worship. Those of us living now in a relationship with Christ are under the new law. If we weren’t we could be stoned to death, have hands cut off, and more when we sinned! Now aren’t you thankful we live under the new covenant?
For the record, I don’t have one…yet. Kat Von D, if you ever read this, I want you to do portraits of my kids with their nicknames on my calf.

Tattoo: Guess Who Has A New One?
Allon by Shawn Lamb
ALLON is a fantasy tale about a kingdom groaning under the oppressive rule of King Marcellus. Yet the King is also enslaved - to the evil spirit Dagar. The entire citizenry of ALLON holds fast to the prophecy that a new ruler will come, brought by the Guardians. He will bring peace. He will bring justice. He will bring love.
"He" is teenager Prince Ellis, an exile from ALLON who faces trials to prove himself able to rule ALLON and return it to glory. Ultimately, Prince Ellis must defeat Marcellus and the power behind the throne before ALLON can be restored.
ALLON - a magical tale of adventure, destiny, and faith.
My Review:
This is such an adventure book! I haven't finished all of it, but have loved it! The beginning was confusing because so much was happening and so many characters were introduced! After all the craziness of the beginning, which sets up the story, the characters fall in to place and we get to know them in depth and who's side they are on. It was evident from the beginning of this YA fantasy novel that God would be well represented!
We follow Ellis as he learns about himself, his past and his future. We see how the Lord, Jor'el, works in this fantasy world and how Satan is plotting and scheming. I think that youth, as well as adults will really enjoy this journey with Prince Ellis and his companions! The reader will see the Lord working in the lives of the characters, even when the characters don't realize it and maybe be able to apply that to their lives.
I can not wait to finish reading this novel! The ONLY reason I didn't finish was because we've been so busy with work and activities nearly every day the last 2 weeks! So it's not a reflection of the book. I will be keeping this book because my daughter and down the road, my boys will love going on this adventure!
About the Author:
Shawn Lamb, creator of ALLON, is surrounded by creative people. Her husband has enjoyed a lengthy career in animation. Remember He-Man and She-Ra and Fat Albert? Yep, that's him. Shawn's daughter is a brilliant imaginator, too. She created the drawing you see here of Ellis and Shannan, two characters from ALLON, and is an aspiring director.
Visit the really cool ALLON site: http://www.allonbooks.com/ There you will find an interactive map of ALLON, the Lamb Family link, and even read an Excerpt!!
I'd like to thank Glass Road PR for my review copy!

The Wonder Hanger Review & GIVEAWAY
The Wonder Hanger® is an affordable tool that's great for any Spring Cleaning features. This cascading clothes organizer increases closet space by enabling you to stack clothes vertically. Each Wonder Hanger holds 5 wood, metal or plastic hangers. There are 8 hangers to a package – enough to hang 40 garments. The open-mouth design allows you to easily add or remove your jackets, skirts, pants and shirts. Supporting up to 20 pounds, it can hold up to 5 heavy winter jackets.
You can use it to group complete outfits or similar items, organize by color or season, and hang handbags or belts. It retails for $9.99 and can be purchased at major retail chains including Walmart, Target, Bed Bath and Beyond and CVS and online at http://www.buywonderhanger.com/.
You can find them: https://www.buywonderhanger.com/Default.aspx
My Review:
Do you ever find a product that is so simple that you wonder how someone hadn't thought of it before and what took you so long to check it out? This is one of those products for me. I don't have a heck of a lot of closet space and use my shelves to separate out winter, summer, and extra clothing.
I decided that since we're well into Spring I would have to do something with all of my sweaters, turtlenecks, and heavy vests. Perfect timing with the Wonder Hanger. Unfortunately, I was unselfish and shared 4 of these nifty little hangers with my college-living daughter. I saw her "section" of the dorm closet and she NEEDED this.
So, I get around to hanging up my Winter items and am wishing I had kept ALL of the Wonder Hangers. Thankfully, my daughter is getting good use out of her share. I have so much room now for my Spring and Summer tops. I need to move them to do a bit of rearranging and they were super easy to move with the sweaters still attached. They weren't heavy like I expected.
The downside to the Wonder Hanger is that all those sweaters shouldn't be on one strip. The weight just pulls the clip that hangs on the bar. I think the sweaters will have to be separated and shared with some long sleeve shirts. I will definitely be keeping an eye on the clips!
I think I would only use it for storing the clothing that I'm not using for the season. Getting the clothes off the center of the drop-hanger isn't easy sandwiched between all the other sweaters.
One great place to use this would be a child's room. Their clothes aren't as heavy as ours and they always have lots of little items that would line up well on the Wonder Hanger. The hanger will also hang more flat with less bulky items on it.
Now's the time to get your closet in order. Ready to win your own set of 8 Wonder Hangers?
Required: Tell me if you switch out your closet wardrobe for each season.

Faith Necklace Review & GIVEAWAY
Sabine from Shiny Little Blessings and I connected at Mom Bloggers Club. She has a wonderful Etsy shop and has the most charming jewelry. She has a several different collections and her creativity is evident in each piece she creates. For today’s review (and giveaway) I chose a necklace from her Faith Collection.
Here's the description from her site:
What a statement!! 'Faith' stamped washer - size is approx. 0.9 inches / 2 cm - with an elegant pearl in its center on a 19 inch / 48 cm antiqued steel necklace.
My Thoughts:
I loved this necklace from the moment I opened the box. I really like silver and was glad I made this choice. The chain is well crafted and will hold up to daily wearing. I believe it’s a brushed nickel. The pearl is a nice, shiny white and really makes the stamped washer pop with brightness. Sabine is right when she says this necklace is a statement!
I’d love for you to check out a few of her other items from her
Signature Collection:
Leather Bracelet, Bali Beads, Swarovski and Silver Charms
Brown Suede Leather Necklace with Bali Beads, Pendant, Charms
Little Girl Collection:
Necklaces and Pendants:
Beautiful Butterfly Be Free (my favorite out of all collections because I love the colors which is so out of character for me!)
Here’s a little tidbit about Sabine:
I have three rules for making my ‘Shiny Little Blessings’:
1.) All of my designs come from the heart – otherwise I wouldn’t love what I do!!
2.) Top quality only – I will only sell a piece if I would wear it myself!!
3.) Since most of us don’t have money to waste right now, the price needs to be right!!
I believe everybody needs a little (affordable) sparkle in their lives!! You can take a basic outfit (Jeans and a T-shirt), add the right piece of jewelry to it, and you transform yourself from ‘basic casual’ to ‘sparkling fantastic’ – and that goes for the mood and the outfit by the way. And when I say ‘everybody’ I mean ‘Men’ and ‘Women’. Trust me, the man on your side will appreciate your transformation just as much!! ;o)
So, I bet you’re thinking you’d like to add the Faith Charm necklace to your jewelry box or give it as a gift since it comes boxed with a pink bow. Here’s what you have to do:
Required: Visit Shiny Little Blessings. Come back and tell me a different piece that you liked! I’d prefer it to be something different than listed above.
Giveaway open to US Residents 18 yrs or older. Please leave an email or have it available on your profile page. No email/contact = No entry. Giveaway ends 5/13, 10pm CDT. Winner will have 48 hours to respond to the winning email.

The Real Housewives of New Jersey: Season One DVD Review & Giveaway
Yes, I am a fan of "The Real Housewives" series. I started watching the original Housewives several years ago and got a kick out of watching how the rich & famous lived in California. Now comes what I would say is my favorite ladies to watch, The Real Housewives of New Jersey.
These women are real and they are raw. You mess with them, you will feel their wrath. And you aren't dealing with one woman. Oh no! You're dealing with a family of women. Let me just say for the record, it doesn't pay to be on their bad side. Being an observer, I wonder why anyone would egg them on. It's hysterical.
Let me introduce you to the Housewives:
Caroline is the matriarch of the Manzo family. She doesn’t take anyone’s crap and she is a straight shooter. It’s obvious she loves her family fiercely and will protect them to the end. Can I be honest and say I wish she were my big sister. Not kidding. Family is serious business to her and she’s got your back!
Dina is Caroline’s younger sister. Dina’s husband isn’t part of the show because he made the choice not to be. Dina has a daughter who she treats more like a sister or BFF. I like that Dina has chosen to step back from her career to a certain degree while since she’s missing so much of her daughter’s life.
Teresa is a hoot to watch! She doesn’t seem to live in the same reality of any other woman on the show! She goes shopping 3-4 days a week and can easily drop over a grand, in cash, while doing so. They just finished building a house that took 3 yrs!! She is also trying to get her oldest daughter into the acting industry (but she’s not a stage mom, so she says). Teresa had her “bubbies” done this season and it was hysterical!
Jacqueline is married to Dina & Caroline’s brother. She doesn’t come from wealth and is probably the most level headed and easiest to “relate” to. She actually reminds me of my sister-in-law, Liz, whom I love! She has a teenage daughter from a previous marriage and 2 sons from her current marriage. Right now Jacqueline struggles with being friends with Danielle and maintaining her relationship with the family.
Danielle has 2 daughters and a sketchy past. She seems to enjoy stirring up drama and brings it with her wherever she goes. Danielle has no problem trying to convince Jacqueline to stay her friend even when it could jeopardize Jacqueline’s standing in her family. She has no respect for the other women and portrays herself constantly as the victim. You can see she tries to act as though she doesn’t realize people are going to have certain reactions and then when they do, she’s like, “gee, I didn’t know that would happen”. For real? She’s easy to dislike.
About the DVD:
DISC 1 (approx 157 min): Season Preview / Thicker Than Water / Mama Knows Best / Not One of Us / bonus – Text Bios
DISC 2 (approx 135 min): Black & White & Read All Over / Casinos and C-Cups / The Last Supper (Finale)
DISC 3 (approx 180 min): The Last Supper Director’s Cut / Reunion: Watch What Happens, Pt. 1 / Reunion: Watch What Happens, Pt. 2 / The Lost Footage / bonus – Quiz
My Review:
I hadn’t had satellite for almost 2 yrs so I’ve missed all the fun new shows. I was so glad to have the opportunity to watch The Real Housewives of New Jersey Season One. I ended up watching them all in one night I was so hooked!
We all have our guilty pleasures, and this definitely became mine. I wish we had Bravo with our satellite package, but since I don’t I will either have to watch it streamed on the computer or wait for the next season come out on DVD. I’m serious, this is my favorite Real Housewives! I’ve seen the other shows, but I think the “family” part of the show makes it more Real! You can choose your friends but you can’t choose your family, so that’s what adds to the show.
Now, this isn’t for everyone. They do say the “B” word on occasion and Danielle introduces her daughters to the guys she “dates” which I think is unhealthy. Teresa lives a lifestyle that is so beyond knowing there’s a recession it’s not even funny, although she is fun to watch. There’s also a LOT of drama, and that’s where you get sucked in.
You can purchase your own copy of The Real Housewives of New Jersey: Season One on Amazon.com or Walmart.com. It’s worth the entertainment!

Glasses USA Review and GIVEAWAY
When I spoke to Hillary intially, I was concerned that I might need to have prescription glasses to particpate in a review, but thankfully that wasn't the case. I don't really need glasses unless my eyes are tired, at least at this point. Since I typically read at night, my eyes have a tendency to be tired. So, the glasses I was sent were exactly what I needed!
Ordering glasses online should be a simple and easy procedure. That is what you will find at Glasses USA. They have an amazing array of glasses to choose from:
- Designer Frames
- Classic Frames
- Retro Frames
- Fashion Frames
- Dior
- Polo
- RayBan
Those are just a sampling of their options. They have some really nice sunglasses, too!
If you'd like to make a purchase, you can visit Glasses USA and use the neverending 5% off code Mommy5 on your final order. One of their awesome functions at Glasses USA is to see how the glasses will look on you. You can upload a photo of yourself, use your webcam, or use one of their stock photos and then click through their selection to see how they'll look on you!! Isn't that an awesome feature? I love it. I also love that the glasses come with a heavy duty glasses case and cloth. They have been wonderful to wear. The Lyncoln are a lightweight frame and fit me to a "T"!
Here's a bit more that I thought you should know about Glasses USA:
"There are a few things you should know about GlassesUSA. We’re not just out to make money – we actually care about society! All of our returned eyeglasses are not restocked as they are with most optical stores. Ours are "recycled"! What does that mean? Well, we believe that everyone should have access to vision care. So, we donate all of our returned eyeglasses to various organizations around the US who then sanitize and redistribute the eyeglasses with the correct prescription to people all over the world who can’t afford vision care! Seeing properly shouldn’t be a luxury – it should be a necessity. We do our best to help our customers and we take their vision needs very seriously. We are an international company with two offices: one in New Jersey (our headquarters) and one in Israel. Our eyeglasses are produced at both facilities in order to provide our customers with top quality lenses in the
hottest frames available!"
one free pair of single-vision prescription glasses LIKE their Facebook page. Leave a comment saying, "Checking in from the giveaway at Woven by Words".
I'd like to thank Hillary from Glasses USA for contacting me and asking me to review their glasses.

CSN Rachel Ray Bakeware Review & Giveaway
So, Ashely from CSN Stores gave me the opportunity to choose from any of their stores for a product to review. I was like a kid in a candy shop...an extremely large candy shop! Decisions, decisions!
I chose the Rachael Ray “Bubble & Brown” 2-Piece Stoneware Baker Set in Yellow. This set came so quickly, I was surprised! I called my girlfriend who is an amazing baker! I took the Rachel Ray Set to her house and this is what she created:
She bakes for our church on Wednesdays and always has the BEST baked food. I thought she would make a fabulous casserole using these and she certainly did! Here's a little information about the Bubble & Brown Set:
- 1 x 1-Qt. Bubble & Brown Stoneware Baker
- Small Baker Dimensions: 4.5" H x 11.5" W x 7" D
- 1 x 1.5-Qt. Bubble & Brown Stoneware Baker
- Medium Baker Dimensions: 4.5" H x 14" W x 9.75" D
You know what the funny part of this set is? The day after I requested this set, I was watching Rachel Ray and there was the Bubble & Brown Set on her table that she was baking with!! I was so excited! To see a celebrity actually using the items she's helped create is very encouraging!
I gifted the set to my dear friend who created the dish you see. She's been so amazing in my life the last couple years and since she loves to cook, I thought she deserved this!

The Back-Up Plan Releasing April 23, 2010 & Win A Private Screening
Alan Poul (“Swingtown” and “Six Feet Under”) is directing. Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch (The Pursuit of Happyness, Knowing) are producing through their Escape Artists banner. Kate Angelo (“Will & Grace,” “What About Brian”) wrote the screenplay.
After years of dating, Zoe has decided waiting for the right one is taking too long. Determined to become a mother, she commits to a plan, makes an appointment and decides to go it alone. On the day of her artificial insemination, Zoe meets Stan - a man with real possibilities.
Trying to nurture a budding relationship and hide the early signs of pregnancy becomes a comedy of errors for Zoe and creates confusing signals for Stan. When Zoe nervously reveals the reason for her unpredictable behavior, Stan commits fully and says he's in.
Never before has love seen a courtship where a wild night of sex involves three in a bed - Stan, Zoe and the ever-present massive pregnancy pillow. Or, where 'date night' consists of being the 'focal point' at a near-stranger's water birth which does for kiddie pools what "Jaws" did for swimming in the ocean. The real pregnancy test comes when both of them realize they really don't know each other outside of hormonal chaos and birth preparations. With the nine month clock ticking, both begin to experience cold feet. Anyone can fall in love, get married and have a baby but doing it backwards in hyper-drive could be proof positive that they were made for each other.
My Thoughts
I obviously haven't seen the movie, but the trailer looks fantastic and already has me itching to watch it. Now, when you read the first sentence in the 3rd paragraph, I have to say that I don't approve of this aspect of the movie. Yes, it's an adult movie, but my conservative views aren't in line with it. I'm just sayin'. My job is to be honest with you as a reviewer. That's what I'm doing. The rest of the story however seems very charming. The film is not rated. I have a feeling it'll be PG-13.
How about learning more about the movie? Let me forewarn you about visiting the Official Back-Up Plan website. When you move your cursor around, there's a little heart with a tail that follows you around. Yes, it's a sperm. Did I honestly say that on my blog? Never in a million, gazillion years did I ever imagine myself typing that word here...for any reason. Never say, "never," eh?
