About This Book
“Padraig, my friend, it is time for us to be courageous.”
Padraig the dragon and his best friend, Roger the turtle are determined to spend the whole night outside. As brave explorers at the base of Mount Sillymanborrow, the boys use their imaginations to have fun while munching on crunchy baked bugs and toasting s’mores over their campfire. But when the sky gets dark and the sounds of strange animals fill the forest outside their tent, their safari gets scary. This adventure is just what the boys need to discover that the dark might be frightening, but their friendship is stronger than fear.
My Review
I love Donita K. Paul and her books for young adults and adults. Her daughter follows in her mom’s footsteps and begins telling stories with her in the The Dragon and The Turtle books.
As I was reading the story, I didn’t realize Padraig and Roger were using their imaginations with the animals that were in the forest imagining that forest animals were safari animals. After I noticed that the animals were morphing during the story I thought it was so adorable.
The way Roger and Padraig encourage each other to be brave during the story is really sweet and in the end they have to be courageous and save a little leopard. It’s a great story showing kids how to be good friends and kind to others.
At the end of the story the reader is told about The Legend of Mount Sillymanborrow and the authors encourage parents to discuss the story with their children. It’s a great way to get the children to think about being a friend and thinking of others.

I like the little lesson storybooks. Very cute friendship tale.
Thanks for the review, Mimi. We had a blast writing the book. Blueviolet is right in her love of stories that tell a lesson. The original fairytales were passed down to solidify what a culture thought about humanity and the necessity of nobility. Big words for transferring values from one generation to the next. The trick is to write a lesson into a story without sounding like it's a lecture disguised as a story. Kids are so sharp! They no when they are being preached at, and they'd rather learn from being entertained.
