My First Tweet Up

I was so excited when @libbytalks connected with me on Twitter and invited me to meet up with her, @sumnermusolf and @bradspy from #usguys. But then I started to think about how realistic it would be to drive down to the cities on a week night to hang out at the The Lyndale Tap House. I really hemmed and hawed.

Me & Libby
I've only been following the #usguys hashtag since last weekend. I finally decided to go have some plain old fun for myself. I called Libby and we decided I'd drive us down there! We met in Plymouth and hit the road to Lyndale. Libby navigated and we had a fun time getting to know each other as we drove. Libby was such a delight to meet and talk with. It was as if we were long lost friends.

We made it Lyndale and man that place is hopping! It was 6:30pm and there were cars everywhere. We found the Tap House and as we were finding parking I saw motorcycle after motorcycle.

Let's pause here while I say I love riding. I grew up with my dad having a motorcycle and taking a ride is so freeing. I had no idea what the event was for the motorcycle crowd, but I have to admit my interest was piqued.

We found Brad and Sumner at a table waiting for us and moved to a booth. It was the funniest moment for me because I've never done anything like this before. Do you hug people from Twitter, shake hands, or what? I figured, you know what? I hug, that's what I do. As I'm hugging Sumner he says, "Oh, we're hugging." hahahaha Yep, that's how I roll.

Brad, Sumner, Me, Libby
I checked in to FourSquare while Libby's phone was being wonky. Brad & Sumner kind of bragged a lot about their phones. We took a couple of photos with our phones, well, Libby and I did. The guys phones were too cool to be bothered with taking photos. They were impressed with my Droids flash. Mmmmhmmm I have a cool phone too.

Talking with these three wasn't like talking to strangers at all. It was like coming home for me. I was so amazingly comfortable. I can see I prefer more intimate settings like this than big group meetings. There's just a chance to connect more personally, albeit while yelling across the table due to the noise.

Brad & Sumner
Unfortunately it came time for the 4 of us to head in different directions. I was bummed. And to think I almost missed this!

Libby and I drove home together. We had such a great discussion. We talked about pretty much everything you can think of in the short amount of time we had together. Thank you Libby for being so sweet and gracious to invite me.

I will absolutely do another tweet-up if they have one! Thanks guys for making our night so fun!

Congrats to you on attending your first Tweetup! I've only attended two so far, and prior to both I was extremely nervous! However once I got there, I really enjoyed myself! I'm glad that everything was great for you and that you had a good time!

Hey Mimi! I'm so glad you came. Much more fun to ride in with you...I don't know if we'll ever know why all the bikers were there but they were fascinating. I think the guys were complaining about their phones because they were so old, but it was kinda hard to hear in there! :) I loved every minute of it. They were hilarious and so are you. I never laughed so hard. I'm sure we'll be fast friends and there will be many more tweetups! Thanks for writing about it...great job...I LOVE your blog! <3 Libby
