There’s a New Restaurant In Town

When I moved to the area 14 yrs ago, there was a rumor going around that McDonalds was going to open somewhere. Made no difference to me. I was used to McDonalds being everywhere.

McDonalds

But it never appeared. They myth of it coming continued.

I’d say about 10 years ago our little country grocery store built a brand new building right smack dab in the middle of town. You know what this did, right? It perpetuated the rumor that McDonalds was coming. Then the old building was demolished. Ooooo maybe it was on the way!

Fast forward to Summer 2012 and a sign goes up on the corner of town. The only place we have a stop light is right there. The sign says McDonalds IS coming.

It’s no longer a rumor. It’s finally happening.

In our town of just over 3000 this is all that’s talked about. McDonalds was going to open, for real!

Then, the kids start talking every time we drive by it.

“When it opens, I’m eating there every day.”

“Dave says he’s going to eat there every day after school.”

“It’s going to open in X number of days.”

When I was told “when” it was going to open, I asked my boys how they knew and of course someone on the bus had the “exact” date. Let’s just say that date came and went.

Grand Opening

The first day it DID open, the first 50 people in to the store got a free Big Mac every week for the next year! At first my boys said they got ONE Big Mac. When we went in the first day it was open, we found out they won 52 of them.

Yes, I went there the first day, but it wasn’t until dinner and we actually went earlier than we normally eat dinner to beat the rush. Thank goodness because after we got there, all the families came to town.

What I love about small town living is knowing everyone, for the most part. My best friend and her family walked in shortly after we did and sat with us. There were others around that we know really well. That’s just one of the things that make me love this little town.

Doodle & Ronald

Needless to say, this is where the boys want to go every single day to eat. I’ve taken them back once since this week was the “official” grand opening. We went Sunday after church and lo and behold, in walks Ronald McDonald himself ready to do a magic show. He actually scared the crap out of me because I wasn’t watching the front door and all of a sudden this booming voice comes from the entry welcoming himself into the store!

Ronald and Buddy

I was really surprised that Buddy actually wanted to take a picture with him. You know, he’s at that age where he’s still a kid, but doesn’t want to be seen as one. I love him!

So, if my firstborn son had anywhere to choose to eat right now, be it breakfast, lunch or dinner, he’d choose the brand spanking new McDonalds. My little town, and son, are growing up!

Mama’s Losin’ It

Writing Prompts:

1.) Your first born child gets to choose where you eat for dinner…what would they pick and why?
2.) 10 ways to survive a power outage. (Inspired by Hurricane Sandy)
3.) Write a post inspired by the word: Flooded
4.) Tell us about a time you got intoxicated. What happened?
5.) Describe a favorite Halloween costume you once wore.

This is just the cutest little story, and girl, you'd better get in there A LOT and use those coupons up while you can!

What kid doesn't like McDonalds? Actually, I have to admit I'm addicted to their sweet tea. So if there was one in my little town, I'd be going through the drive thru every day ...

Haha! That is a great story. I'm sure eventually they'll get sick of eating there. Wait... they're kids... nevermind.
