Hope and Fellowship with #HomeRunMovie

A few years ago, a couple of close friends of mine started a small group at our church called Celebrate Recovery. I had heard various things about this ministry by them and was invited numerous times to visit, but I never did.

Then this past year, several people from the group stood before our congregation giving their testimony about how Celebrate Recovery had changed their lives. It was at that point I decided I needed to join. Unfortunately, my ex-husband decided to join the group the very same week. He had no idea that I had planned on going since I hadn’t told anyone.

I never went.

As soon as I heard about Home Run and that it incorporated Celebrate Recovery with it, I knew I had no choice but to see it and get involved with getting this movie into theaters.

My first attempt at the movie didn’t work because of technical issues. What can you do, right? My second attempt involved a snowstorm that shut everything down and no one went anywhere. Third time was a charm! The neighbor family from church who hosts a small group in their home came and another family with the gal who leads a women’s bible study came to view it with me.

Do you ever worry about the quality of certain movies? How are the actors going to be, will the cinematography seem low-budget, will it feel like it was made by a bunch of interns? You know what I mean!

THIS was not that movie! The acting was believable and really good, the cinematography was good, although the speeding car scene was too fast, and you could tell it was made by people who knew what they were doing!

I set up a baseball themed dinner and the adults sat down to watch the movie while all of our kids went downstairs to hang out and play.

I have to say, throughout the movie, I could’ve used a tissue. It has a powerful message of hope, restoration, and forgiveness. I don’t know if this is the case, but I felt like the people who were sharing about their experience with Celebrate Recovery weren’t actors.

It never ceases to amaze me how differently people react to the circumstances that life hands us. I truly believe none of us comes out unscathed, even if it appears like some do.

After the movie was over we talked a little bit about it. Here are some of our thoughts…

“It was nice to have a Christian movie present the gospel. Sometimes movies are nice and family friendly, but you would never tell that it’s Christian.”

“I’d never heard of Celebrate Recovery before, so this gave me a better insight as to what it was. It encompasses so much.”

“Movies don’t usually keep his attention, but this one certainly did!” and her husband agreed!

And I’d say if you see this movie and you think that it doesn’t apply to you or someone you know, I suggest you watch the credits and the posters people hold up. Celebrate Recovery can touch the lives of everyone.
Having seen this movie, and knowing first hand how life changing this Christian 12 Step program is, I have made an agreement with Sarea and we’re going to hold each other accountable for finding a group and getting involved.

Now, we need to get this movie into theaters across the country. You and your church can get involved. I remember hearing churches and radio stations promoting Courageous when it was coming into theaters and it was amazing the support they received from the community. I hope Home Run the Movie will even surpass that attendance!

I know I have a few phone calls to make to pastors that I know, ones who can make a huge impact in their communities by helping get this movie into theaters!
