Goldfish Puffs Trailmix: Perfect for Traveling #makeitgopuff #shop #cbias

Goldfish Puffs
How did summer break just finally here?! My boys got out two weeks later than their old school did back in MN and I can’t tell you how much they groused about it. With the end of school comes the consideration of after-school snacks. You know how it is with teen snacks!

During the school year my youngest son brings a snack to school every. single. day! Back in MN he just kept his snack in his locker until it was gone and then I would replenish it. Here in VA, they had a community closet where everyone just dumped their stuff like jackets, backpacks, etc.

Looking forward to the summer, I had to think about the large boxes of Goldfish he would go through and how he might be getting a bit tired of them, but still wanting them occasionally. I also had to think of what my now 14 yr old would want to eat since he never has snack at school and being the growing boy he is, what and how much he’d eat.

Well, plans come and go and my plans for the boys in July somewhat “went”. They were going to go back to MN to visit their sisters and friends. It took me about a month to get it all squared away so I knew where the boys would be every single day. I wasn’t going back with them and needed to be sure of their schedules.
Trailmix Fixins
The day of making their flights we called their grandma for her birthday and she suggested the boys flight out earlier and spend time with their dad’s side of the family up north at the cabin and back down to Chicago area until they had to be back to their oldest sister’s on the 17th. I told them to get their plans completely figured out and if they could include the boys, then I would send them out their sooner.

The aunts and grandma were able to figure out their schedules and now instead of leaving for Minnesota on the 16th, they head out July 1st! They’re going to be gone for FIVE weeks! Oh. My. Gosh. What am I going to do without them for five whole weeks?
Snacking while working
I think the longest I’ve been without my boys is two weeks. And that was dang hard! I think I’ll do okay the first week, but the next will be hard. I’ll be gone on the Peru trip for 8 days and that will hopefully keep me distracted from missing them. Then I’ll come home and have two more weeks without them. Those two weeks might be the hardest.

I had to figure out what clothing they’d need to get them through the entire month and the snacks they’d need for the plane ride. Fred got their flights, but with Southwest, they had to do a layover in Chicago! =( My babies had to change planes all by themselves. (listen, I don’t care how old my kids are, they’ll always be my babies)
Trailmix for the road
I think that with having to sit at the airport for a couple of hours then the layover in Chicago and the flight to Minneapolis, they needed some fun snacks. I’m always in road trip mode and we always bring grocery bags worth of food to eat. I cut it back to airplane size!

They haven’t seen all of their snacks yet, but one they did see was the one they created…trail mix. We used the new Pepperidge Farm Goldfish Puffs Cheddar Bacon and Mega Cheese, mini-marshmallows, craisins, peanuts and mini Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. I was so frustrated at myself when I was shopping at Target because I was going to get cash back for the boys to have for their trip and walked out having totally forgotten it! Oy!
Flight Snacks
For trailmix I had the boys try the Goldfish Puffs because they’d never had them before I wanted to make sure they got flavors they liked in their baggies. After they filled up their own baggies I made second ones for each of them. Their plane ride, including layover is about 4 hours. I got them bottle pops, licorice, and Airheads. I knew that at least with the Goldfish Puffs, they have something filling in the midst of the junk!

Fantastic idea! I didn't know about the Goldfish Puffs! I need to get shopping! I might have to leave out the chocolate since it has been in the 110 degree range lately, but everything else looks yummy!
Thanks for sharing!

I don't know what I'd do without my kids for that long either! I am not looking forward to the empty nest syndrome at all! Their snacks sure look good though :)

That looks so yummy! I usually make trail mix by dumping all the leftover cereal together LOL. I think my kids would appreciate this version more :)

Sounds like you all have a super busy July and summer! I cannot imagine being away from my kids for that long, I think I'd enjoy it for a little while but then get to missing them. So glad you'll have a trip to keep your mind on fun things! I have never seen the goldfish puffs but they look delish, and that trail mix needs to make its way to my house!
