I think during the spring we have the most opportunity to get out and play games as a family. We go to lots of Doodle's baseball practices with nothing to do but sit around. Visiting my family for various holidays and just get togethers means we all want to do something. I can't wait to take Murbles to my mom's house because she has a great backyard! This is also a great game that we can take with us to the beach, and I'll definitely be taking it with us to Minnesota in July. We'll have to play it up at the cabin of course!
One of my favorite things about the game is that they're American Made! You can decide initially how many sets of balls you want. Since we're a family of 4 (on a regular basis) we got four sets of colored balls. I think having a couple of extra sets would be fun if you had a big group together or just had a couple extra people over.
When I finally wrangled my family to get them outside to play, they were initially of the mindset of, "uh, what's mom got us into now." But I can say this with 100% certainty, by the end of our playing time, I had to say, "No, I'm done!" hahahaha
Our first game I told them how to play incorrectly. We had fun, but I realized we were playing way too quickly. Something wasn't making sense so I got out the papers again. Of course the rules are on the bag that the Murbles come in, but I went by the papers that game with the game. I realized we weren't scoring correctly and our winning points was wrong, too. lol
I read the instructions a second time and the lightbulb went off, thankfully! So without further ado...
Everyone picks a color Murble. The colors in our game are green, blue, red, and yellow. After we picked our colors I dumped out the whole bag of balls. The color that was closet to the point ball got to toss the point ball first. The person with the point ball throws the ball however far they want (within reason of course). Then we each took turns tossing our colored bolas as close to the point ball as possible. You'd think playing in our yard wouldn't give us any obstacles, but the way our weeds are growing, it isn't actually flat. We'd start to roll the ball and the next thing we'd know it would pop up in the air or go in the wrong direction.
Now, while I'm sitting there having fun, rolling my ball, innocently just trying to get as close as I can to the point ball, my guys were all trying as many techniques at tossing their Murbles as possible. It was quite comical. They were lobbing them up into the air, rolling low, with a spin, and with a back spin. My youngest was the only one to get 3 points in one turn by getting all 3 of his Murbles closest to the point ball. He actually ended up winning the game!
And just so you know what I dealt with during the game, the measuring tape came out towards the end. lol The guys were serious. Shoe lengths were measured numerous times throughout each of the sets. Unfortunately with this example, because our Murbles were exactly the same distance, both of our balls were taken out and the next yellow ball ended up being the winner. Dagnabit!
