Recently a group of us ladies from church learned about an opportunity to listen to Jen Wilkin speak at the Museum of the Bible. It wasn't my first time being at the Museum, but it was my first time being in the World Stage Theater. What a fantastic place to hear someone! It makes for a rather small, and somewhat intimate evening.
The evening started with a time of worship led by Maryanne J. George with Maverick City Music. Wow, it was an incredible time singing some beloved songs to the Savior. I can see why they've won awards. Her accompanist was fantastic on the piano. I could've worshiped with them all night!
Then Jen came out to speak and it was an incredible introduction to her new Bible study of 1-3 John. She's such a dynamic speaker! She was relatable and spoke so much Truth. Here were a few of my takeaways:
"We can look to the example of Christ to know what we should look like."
"Let's not forget to show the culture the fragrance of God!"
And as a grandma, this one is so important to me...
"Let it pass from generation to generation."
These all came towards the end of the event. I couldn't figure out how to get my notepad to work on my phone with my "fancy" pen that comes with it. Oy, technology isn't always my friend.
After we listened to Jen, we headed to the bookstore where I bought her new study Abide - A Study of 1, 2, & 3 John. I was hoping she'd be able to sign them (because I'm a geek like that), but they just had a collection of her work. We also had a crazy moment where my pastor's wife and I got to meet Ruth Chou Simons. Talk about freaking out... let's just say I had a moment. hahaha I've met famous people before and it hasn't phased me, but meeting Ruth, I think my adrenaline must've been in overdrive because I was babbling away and shaking from excitement. I'll never forget how she pulled me into a hug and just loved on me for a second. You'd have thought I was a 10 yr old girl meeting Taylor Swift. HA! Truly, it was that bad.
Needless to say, we got our photo taken with her and it was an excellent night. hahahaha We walked back to where the vehicles were parked and had a beautiful view of the Capitol (which is having some construction done) and the Washington Monument at night. It was a great evening and I was on fire to get started going through 1-3 John!
My husband and I went through their speaker series and were so bummed to see some amazing opportunities we'd miss out on like Dr. Tony Evans and my husband would've loved learning more about the Apocrypha and why it's not in the Bible. When we toured the Museum of the Bible a couple of years ago my husband got a membership and I think it's time we get one again!
Have you been to the Museum of the Bible before? If so, what did you enjoy the most about it?
